Coffee shop design ideas to inspire your next fit-out

Great coffee shop design does more than look good on Instagram. It shapes how long your customers stay, how comfortable they feel, and whether they come back for that second flat white. Whether you’re fitting out a brand-new venue or breathing life back into a tired one, taking inspiration from some of the most beautifully designed coffee shops around the world is a brilliant place to start.

The best coffee shops tend to have one thing in common. Every element, from the lighting to the chairs to the colour of the walls, feels like part of one considered look. The good news is you don’t need a celebrity designer or a Hong Kong budget to pull that off. You just need a clear direction, the right furniture, and a bit of inspiration.

At Warner, we’ve pulled together five coffee shops from around the world that caught our eye recently, along with some ideas on how to bring elements of each look into your own space.

Alchemy ORIGIN, Hong Kong

Warm lighting and a soft, reddish-orange glow give Alchemy ORIGIN its cosy, almost cinematic feel. It’s the kind of space that makes you want to slow down, stay a bit longer, and order another drink. Cane-back chairs run through the space, adding texture and tying the whole look together with a relaxed, effortless finish.

Cane backs are a smart choice for hospitality venues. They lighten a room visually, soften harder finishes like stone or metal, and bring a touch of craft without feeling fussy. To recreate that same silhouette in your own venue, our Gordon Cane Back Side Chair is a great place to start.

Verdin Coffee, Buenos Aires

Verdin Coffee is a beautiful example of what happens when you let nature lead the design. Plants are woven throughout the space, blurring the line between cafe and garden, and natural light is given room to do its thing, bouncing off the pale walls and warming the room without the need for heavy artificial lighting. It’s a smart approach for any coffee shop with decent window space.

Outside, minimalist green chairs carry the same natural mood across the threshold. If you’re working with a similar palette, our Apollo Stacking Outdoor Chair and Ariel Outdoor Armchair would slot neatly into the scheme, and both are built to handle the British weather as comfortably as the Argentinian sun.

Cafezal Speciality Coffee Roasters, Milan

Cafezal layers shades of deep navy with peach upholstered seating for a colour combination that feels both mature and a little bit playful. It’s a great example of how two bold colours can carry an entire interior.

The real standout pieces, though, are their Terrazzo table tops. Terrazzo has had a real renaissance in hospitality design over the last few years, and it’s easy to see why. It brings personality, hides everyday marks brilliantly, and works just as well in modern minimalist venues as it does in busier, more eclectic spaces.

We’ve created similar pieces before, including a bespoke Mixed Terrazzo Compact Grade Table Top for an iconic cafe, bar and restaurant in Manchester. A bespoke table top like this would give any venue the same artisan finish, with the added benefit of being manufactured to commercial spec so it withstands everyday use.

Attendant Coffee Roasters, London

Set inside a former Victorian men’s WC, Attendant is one of London’s most distinctive coffee shops, and a brilliant lesson in working with what you’ve got. Rather than hiding the building’s industrial bones, the design leans into them, softening the harder finishes with touches of modern opulence around the bar, like the upholstered bar tools.

The furniture’s job here is to complement that history rather than compete with it. Our Garcia Bar Stools strike that same balance of comfort and statement appeal, perfect for a bar-led layout where customers might stay for a while.

Flask Coffee, Bishkek

Flask Coffee strips things back to a minimalist white scheme with sharp black accents running through it. The result is clean, contemporary and quietly confident.

Minimalism is harder to pull off than it looks. With so few elements in play, every piece has to earn its place, which makes choosing the right furniture especially important. To recreate Flask’s pared-back style, pair our Antonio Complete Round MFC Table in white with our Finn Wooden Side Chair for a clean, modern finish that still feels warm and welcoming.

How Warner can help with your coffee shop fit-out

Pulling together a coffee shop design is the fun part. Turning it into a working venue, with furniture that holds up to daily service, fits the space properly, and arrives on time, is where things can get trickier. That’s where we come in.

At Warner, we’ve spent years helping independent coffee shops, growing cafe groups and hospitality operators across the UK bring their fit-outs to life.

We know the difference between a chair that looks great on a moodboard and one that survives ten years of being scraped across a tiled floor. We know which table tops cope with hot mugs and constant wipe-downs, and which ones won’t.

Every piece in our cafe furniture collection is built to contract standards, which means it’s tested for the realities of commercial use rather than the gentler life of a domestic kitchen. And if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for off the shelf, our bespoke and made-to-order range lets you customise the size, fabric and finish to suit your space.

Whether you’re opening your first independent coffee shop or rolling out a new look across a group of cafes, our friendly sales team are on hand to help you choose the right pieces. Get a quote or contact us to chat through your options.
